The willingness to adapt may have first come in 2003, when First Baptist Church in San Rafael changed its name to Lincoln Hill Community Church. “We are on Lincoln Avenue. We are on a hill, and we are looking forward to reaching out to our community,” Rodríguez said.

Over time, a group of Brazilians joined Lincoln Hill, leading the church to reorient itself outward.

But over time, Saturday night services in Portuguese led to the Organic Church.

“That was very difficult for our church,” Rodríguez acknowledged.

Then came Lincoln Hill’s third “reset” with “a new influx of families,” he said. They come from Haiti, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Iran, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Korea, China, Ukraine, Ethiopia and everywhere.

“Now we are training new people to respond to his call,” Rodríguez said. “We are training our people to be good disciples of Jesus and good neighbors. We are now focusing on our Koinonia groups. These are the focal point of influence towards the people around us. We say: ‘Come and share life in Christ.’”
